TRYING OUT OR PLAYING WITH A NEW TEAM
Posted June 9th, 2007 by SmoThis blog is dedicated mostly to my seniors, but as many of our players go into pro-league for the first time, this advice can fit for you as well.
There are five essential parts to showing you are a good player. I use the word good, because great players cannot hide from the eyes of the wise. There are some players that will always be considered one of the best, even though they have VERY bad games or try outs.

Easterns 2007
Posted May 24th, 2007 by SmoEASTERNS 2007
It has been awhile since my last blog. Mostly because of the subject before me today. There have been some changes in my perception of myself and of where this book stands. First though, lets look at my source of negativity.

Spirit Of The Game
Posted April 14th, 2007 by SmoSOTG
This is a pre-curser to my book, and seeing as nobody reads these, I’m just writing to brainstorm what I’m going to be publishing. This will read more like a journal than anything, and might seem convoluted, opague, and uneven, but everybody has to start somewhere. I envision the book being about spirit of the game, and how the philosophy of spirit of the game should be used in every classroom, and especially every P.E. class. So lets start with a definition.
THE MENTAL GAME
Posted April 3rd, 2007 by SmoTHE MENTAL GAME
As a coach I ignored the mental part of the game for far too long. Only this year have I started working with my players on focus, consistency, endurance, self-respect, optimism, and spirit. Now that I believe the importance of the mental game I can really start to understand its significance. However, because I am so new to this part of the game, some of my details on this matter may be flawed, although I believe the fundamentals to be true. Also, this section is going to seem un-organized and hodge podge because there are a lot of unfinished thoughts.
Defense Overview
Posted March 10th, 2007 by SmoThere is so much to take into consideration when discussing defense and it is probably easier to break this down into situational examples. There are an infinite number of defenses a team could play, although there are three main variations: Person, zone, transition, and junk.
Conditioning
Posted March 2nd, 2007 by SmoConditioning for Ultimate should be broken into three basic phases. Just like other sports have pre-season workouts, regular seasons workouts, and then tapering toward the end of the season so an Ultimate training program should do the same. There are physiological reasons for breaking this down into phases.
